We are in our fourth month of 2020! How are you doing on your health and fitness goals so far this year? Are you reaching for those unhealthy sweets all too often? Let’s be honest here; if the answer is yes don’t feel bad it takes time, motivation and repetitive effort to make change. My favorite solution to satisfying sweet tooth cravings is organic fruit. Fruit contains healthy sugar and is packed with all kinds of vitamins. Berries are my favorite because they are loaded with antioxidants which help keep your immune system running at an optimal level. Learning to retrain your brain to be satiated with fruit instead of unhealthy refined sugars and corn syrups which, can cause weight gain and a slew of health ailments, is worth the effort!
Check out 3 fun ways to incorporate berries into your diet!
Berries & Cream Coconut cream makes for an absolutely delicious topping to add extra flavor to a fruit bowl. Seriously y’all I was licking the bowl clean I was so impressed by the natural sweetness of coconut cream. Fresh, organic strawberries and blueberries can easily be spruced up with a heaping dollop of coconut cream. I put mine in a bowl and stir until the coconut cream is smooth and whipped! So simple. Then just add it to a bowl of fruit and enjoy!
Açai Bowls OK so maybe I am obsessed with açaà bowls, but can you blame me? Not only can you have fun with this snack and change it up according to the toppings and ingredients you like, you can eat it knowing it is super healthy for you because berries are superfoods! Definitely stick to 100% organic ingredients if you can especially, because non organic fruit is sprayed with pesticides and that really makes this snack not so good for you. I love using Sambazon frozen organic açaà packets. I have found them at both Whole Foods and Target. I add the frozen packet along with other frozen fruit like mangos and strawberries plus almond milk and a tablespoon of almond butter to the blender. I blend until smooth then pour into a bowl and top with my favorite treats including fresh organic kiwi, blueberries, strawberries, gluten free granola and raw cacao chocolate chips which not only are great to satisfy a sweet tooth, but they also add in additional antioxidants! Have some fun with this one and put your own twist on it!
Nut Butter Toast with Berries I never would have thought of this one on my own but when I was in NYC last summer for work I needed a healthy, but filling snack and I discovered this tasty treat at a cafe. Toast a slice of hearty GF bread, spread your favorite nut butter on top of the toast; I love cashew butter, then top with sliced organic strawberries! This treat is so easy and simple yet delightfully tasty and healthy!
